About this project:
The Student Services Building was created to be an entrance to this university, and reflected on the geography of Claremont, which includes foothills and the San Andreas Mountains nearby to the campus. The roof is 90,000 square feet, and it includes perforated metal overhands that range from 5 to 28 feet deep depending on orientation. The roof spans over two buildings, and an arcade between them, that is also underneath the roof.
Challenge:
The challenge with this roof was that it needed to optimize energy management and maximize daylight, a well as spanning over two buildings as one roof. Additionally the roof needed to be provide shelter for the desert climate around the building and through the arcade between the buildings. Additionally, this roof also needed to protect the building's aluminum-framing and low-e reflective glass exterior from the sun.
Solution:
Kalzip standing seam was the perfect solution to meet all the requirements and unique requests for this building.
First, the design. Kalzip panels make it easy to create an individual look for a building, as was done with this roof. The flexibility of the aluminum makes it simple to bend the panels as needed, such as was done with this roof.
Next, Kalzip's panels were able to create an overhand that shaded anyone standing under them, as well as protecting the building itself. The metal overhangs range from five to 28 feet deep depending on orientation.
